How to Make a Fortune

Afraid-to-speak-cover-resized-231x300“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.“  Jim Rohn

What have you learned today?  The self-development industry is a HUGE industry, bringing in billions of dollars each year. Of course, it would be interesting to find out how many of those books, videos, audio programs, etc. actually get read, watched or listened to.  Even more fascinating would be the percentage of these products that are ACTED upon.  This is when self-help becomes SHELF-help.

How often do you acquire new knowledge? Daily, weekly or are you a “I-haven’t-pick-up-a-book-since-college” person?   As a book junkie, I love information.  I am grateful for the opportunity to hold books in my hand.  I love sitting on the couch, reading with a kitty on my lap.  Or, thankfully, I can kill two birds with one stone by reading while on the treadmill.  When attending seminars and workshops, nothing makes my day better than having the opportunity to bring that presenter home with me in the form of their products.  Life is great when we share what we know and we take the time to learn from others.

Although it’s easy to veg out in front of the television, it may interest you to know that watching TV uses as many brain cells as sleeping.  (Yes, even if you’re watching the History Channel.)

Don’t like to speak in public?  Join Toastmasters.  Think you can’t figure out social media?  Take a class.  Think you don’t have time to go to school?  Visit www.coursera.com and find a variety of online classes from world-renowned universities you can take for free.

When you’re increasing your skills, you’re growing.  When you stop growing, your skills decrease, your motivation wanes, your passion fades.  Challenge yourself to cultivate new talents and abilities.  Get outside your comfort zone and take on something different.  You may surprise yourself and renew your zest for life.

Have fun,

Lisa
