The Secret to Happiness – Stop Watching the News!

1669996 bad morning resized“The secret of happiness is this: let your interests be as wide as possible, and let your reactions to the things and persons that interest you be as far as possible friendly rather than hostile.” Bertrand Russell

While on a trip visiting friends, we discovered that they love watching “news TV” all day long. Because of my lack of exposure to this constant streaming of negativity, I found that viewing these programs gave me an unpleasant physical and emotional mindset, and I had to retreat to a “TV-free” room in the house to escape the barrage.

Long-term exposure to negativity deadens our senses to the point that we may not even realize how we are being affected by it. How about taking a break for a day, a week, a month or longer? The funny thing is that when something bad happens, someone else will always tell you about it, so the chances are good that you’re not going to “miss” anything by turning off the news.

What do you do instead? Read a good book. Watch an uplifting movie. Call a friend. Schedule a date with a loved one. So many positive ways to bring more happiness into your life.

What do you do to find your “happy place?”

PS – We all have the same twenty-four hours in a day. Do you really want to use your precious time basking in negativity?
