“The ultimate of being successful is the luxury of giving yourself the time to do what you want to do.” Leontyne Price
Isn’t it true that oftentimes when we find something that works really well, we stop doing it? When I begin my morning in silent meditation, journaling and exercise, my day flows better. These practices give me less stress, more energy, and better sleep. Unfortunately, sometimes my schedule gets the better of me and all the “me time” becomes “meeting time.” Ugh!
“Me time” also includes spending quality time with loved ones. On a recent Saturday morning, I had a LOT of work to do – a couple talks to prepare for, a mailing to send, and people to follow up with. However, it was a gorgeous sunny day, and Scott and I had not visited the park for awhile. I proposed a morning walk.
He loved the idea, and we experienced the beauty of nature for about an hour and a half. After that we spent the rest of the day having fun, and the thought of work didn’t cross my mind at all. Funny thing is that everything still got done when it was supposed to – on Monday!
Are you giving yourself the luxury of time well spent? If not, start by setting aside just five minutes in the morning. Those first few minutes will set the tone for the rest of your day. Whether you choose to read, meditate or simply focus on your breath, you will find more time that you thought you had.
