Living With No Regrets

Lisa Ryan Grategy reflect“It’s not what you ARE that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re NOT.”  Denis Waitley

In the movie, “The Keeper of the Keys,” author Judith Wright talks about her experiences with writing end of life stories for people.  She found that people have three regrets:  1) they didn’t risk enough; 2) they didn’t reflect enough; and 3) they didn’t give back enough.  Consider how you can become more of who you are by tackling these three regrets NOW.

Risk more.  When people reach the end of the road on this planet, and they start to look back on their lives, they are more likely to have regrets of the things that they did NOT do, versus the risks they took.  What do you dream about doing?  What’s on your bucket list?  Choose one thing this month, and go for it.  No matter what happens, in the end you’ll be glad you gave it a try.

Reflect more.  Take the time to meditate.  Max Bolka shares the importance of meditation in “The Keeper of the Keys” as a way to turn one’s life around.  Just ten minutes a day can make a huge difference.

Give more.  When we are feeling down, one of the best things we can do is help someone else.  Write a check to your favorite charity.  Read to an elderly person.  Run some errands for a harried neighbor.  Send a letter of appreciation to someone you love.

Will you look back at a “life well lived” or will you have wished that you would have done more?  Take action today, you won’t regret it.

Have fun,

Lisa
