The happiest people in life make the best of everything they have

I had the opportunity to see the world premiere of the “The Happy Movie.” This was put on by SOMO Leadership labs (and if you’re not familiar with SOMO, check them out at:  http://www.somoleadershiplabs.com/ )

The movie explored a wide variety of people and cultures from all over the world – from Louisiana to Namibia to Brazil – with a mission to see how happy people actually are.  It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least.

In the US, we have many blessings.  Running water, electricity, paved roads, corner grocery stores, libraries – the list can go on and on.  Because of the advantages we have, we have a tendency to take them for granted.  Let’s not do that anymore.   How about a little ‘gratitude by subtraction’ today? What would your life be like if you had no running water?  No electricity?  What if you had to drive on dirt roads?  And you had to grow your own food?  What is you were unable to have access to books?  Do you think you would be happy?

Chances are, over time, you would learn to be happy without the basic necessities, just like the people in the movie.  However, we have these advantages, so let’s make a special effort to appreciate the amazing things we have in our lives today.

Have fun,

Lisa
