Making Sense of Your Past

“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” Author Unknown

How many times have you said to yourself, “If I only knew then what I know now”? Stop, pause and be grateful that you do have this knowledge now. We don’t always know why things happen. If you’re going through a rough time, it’s often difficult to comprehend the reasons for it. However, once you have the opportunity to reflect, you realize that everything that happened not only had a purpose, it made you into the person you are today.

If you could go back in time, what would you change? Would you go to your high school even though you didn’t enjoy high school? Would you have had children even though you didn’t have a maternal bone in your body? Would you have gone to college right after high school instead of working full time while pursuing your education? Every decision you make leads to a chain of circumstances that directly affect your life’s outcomes.

Frankly, I don’t know if going to my high school prom would have changed the way my life turned out. I do know that my decisions not to have children and not to take the traditional route for college have profoundly impacted my life. Back then I wasn’t sure. Now I understand.

Don’t try to figure out everything that is going on in your life. Be grateful for the times you’ve had, the times you are having, and the times that you will have. It all comes together if you let it.

Have fun,

Lisa
