Be The Change

Did you ever spend weeks dreading an event because of the people you were going to be “stuck” with for the day? If so, this article is especially for you.

There was a large event that I did not want to attend. Trying to think of excuses to get out of going, I had already set in my mind that it was going to be a miserable experience. Finally, I sat myself down and gave myself a “talking-to.” I realized that I was the creator of my own misery and I needed to change my frame of mind. I decided to go on a “negativity fast.”

I vowed to not utter a single complaint or negative word about anyone I was going to see at the event for thirty days. Every time I started to be anxious about our time together, I brought up each person’s face and applied Hoʻoponopono, an ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness. If you’re not familiar with Hoʻoponopono, you simply visualize the person you are having difficulties with and repeat the mantra, “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.” That’s it.

It worked. Not only was the occasion a happy, fun day, but later when I saw a couple of the people I had been forgiving, they greeted me warmly with hugs and smiles. All is now good between us.

Do you have people in your life that irritate you or you find unpleasant to be around? Try this negativity fast, coupled with Hoʻoponopono. I’d love to hear your experiences with this amazing practice.

Have fun,

Lisa
