Because there are so many great articles on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation in the workplace, I want to share the best of these resources with you. Here are my favorites from this week. I have included some of my thoughts on these gratitude strategies (“Grategies”) and would like to hear your comments too.
3 Steps to Increase Employee Engagement by Astrid van den Brink Erlandsson
(Effectory International) “So what’s the key to employee engagement? The single most important thing with employee engagement is empowerment. In order for employees to be engaged, they must be empowered.”
My Thoughts: Simple ideas to connect with employees by empowering them and listing to them – what a concept!
What Are the Keys to Engaging Employees? by Christopher Rice
(Workforce.com) ”As you embed a common definition of employee engagement throughout your organization, emphasize that high engagement survey scores are not the prize. The prize is what a fully engaged workforce achieves as it drives your business strategy.”
My Thoughts: With the term “employee engagement” being tossed around so much it’s becoming cliché, it’s nice to see a simple explanation of what it actually is.
Employee recognition: The KISS… Method by Julie Winkle Giulioni
(Smart Blog on Leadership) “Wichita State University research reported that 81% of employees seldom or never received public praise, 76% seldom or never received written thanks from their managers, and 58% rarely or never received praise from their manager.”
My Thoughts: With these kinds of scary statistics, it’s nice to see simple, specific solutions that work!
