Nothing Done For You is a Matter of Course

prisoner Lisa Ryan Chief Appreciation Strategist Grategy“Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you. Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude.” Albert Schweitzer

During the round of introductions at a training class, several attendees said their only reason for being in the program was “because my manager made me come.”  Uh oh, nothing worse than having people that are “sentenced” to spend three hours with you.  AND, I was grateful for their honesty.

As we delved into the meat of the class, these four women decided that they were going to learn something after all.  They played full-out, contributed their thoughts and worked well in the groups they were brainstorming with. By the end of the session, they were not only the class cheerleaders, their biggest takeaway was that they wanted to attend MORE training so they could continue to learn information that would help them. It was a complete 180-degree turnaround.

When you are asked to do something that you don’t necessarily want to do, are you willing to give it your all anyway and choose to be engaged, or do you try to “make a point” and cause a miserable experience for  yourself and everyone around you?

I am so thankful that these women chose the positive. It made for a much better day for all of us.

Have fun,

Lisa
