The Feeling that Nurtures the Soul

Lisa Ryan Chief Appreciation Strategist Grategy paved road“Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted–a paved road or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.” Rabbi Harold Kushner

While having coffee with a friend, we talked about her new career.  She asked for ideas to build the foundation for a successful venture.  After a discussion on sales and prospecting techniques and brainstorming some strategies for her to use with her prospects, I asked her if she kept a gratitude journal.

Her face turned a little red as she admitted that she didn’t – even though she won my gratitude journal, “Express Gratitude, Experience Good” at a program a year before. I told her, “Do not pass ‘Go,’ do not collect $200, start your gratitude journal TODAY.” In the course of creating a successful career and a happier life, the key is to find gratitude in every day situations.

What about you? Do you have a notebook where you write down your blessings every day? If not, make a commitment to yourself that for the next 30 days, you will write something that you appreciate – even if it’s your washing machine or a paved road.

On day 31, ask yourself the question, “Am I happier than I was 30 days ago?” Chances are the answer will be a resounding “YES!”
