Real Life Isn’t Perfect

Lisa Ryan Chief Appreciation Strategist at Grategy real life isnt perfect“Real life isn’t always going to be perfect or go our way, but the recurring acknowledgement of what is working in our lives can help us not only to survive but surmount our difficulties.” Sarah Ban Breathnach

As much as I travel, I make it a point to double check my hotel room carefully before I leave. Unfortunately, sometimes, for whatever reason, I don’t.

I left a book in my hotel room and didn’t miss it until a few days later. I called the hotel and Doris answered the phone.  I described my book, gave her my room number and crossed my fingers.  Sure enough, ten minutes later my phone rang. Doris said, “Not only do I have your book, I have your phone charger too.”  She took my information and popped both of them in the mail for me – right away, priority mail, no charge.

When we make it easy for people to help us, most of the time they are ready and willing to do so. By being polite, giving Doris all of the information she needed in the search, and holding positive expectations, I got my book back AND as an unexpected bonus, I got my charger returned too.

When you make a mistake, do you take it out on others, expecting the worst, or do you admit fault, try to be as helpful as possible and assume the best? You always have a choice in your attitude, make it a positive one.
