“A renaissance awaits you, if only you apply the pearls of wisdom you already know.” Markus Pierson
You have a lifetime of wisdom stored in your heart and in your head. Sometimes your insight is gained from your mistakes, and other times your knowledge is acquired by learning from the tribulations of others. When you take the time to listen to your inner guidance, you choose the right path at the right time.
On the other hand, there’s outer wisdom, consisting of stories and anecdotes that we believe to be true. What happens when those pearls of wisdom we already “know,” are wrong? Recently I came across several interesting tidbits which disproved beliefs I have held for a long time.
“It takes 21 days to form a habit.” This research was taken from a study of amputees. It was found that it took an amputee 21 days to stop experiencing the phantom pain of the removed limb. Research has shown that it actually takes 66 days to form a habit. (Yes, I liked 21 days better too!)
“We only use 10% of our brain.” We actually use all of our brain, even while sleeping. People actually use only a small percentage of their mental potential – and the number is not confirmed at 10%.
“People are auditory, visual or kinesthetic learners.” There is no research that supports learning styles. We all learn differently, based on our ability, background knowledge, interests
What does all of this have to do with gratitude? I’m grateful that I’m open to learning new information. I value those that conduct research and make it available for us to share. And I appreciate the reminder in this quote that I DO have wisdom, and oftentimes the best person I can listen to is ME! What wisdom will you share with yourself today?
Have fun,
Lisa
Meditating is the single best way to go to the heart of what you know. Go into the silence and listen for your innate intelligence to come through.
