Because there are so many great articles on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation in the workplace, I want to share the best of these resources with you. Here are my favorites from this week. I have included some of my thoughts on these gratitude strategies (“Grategies”) and would like to hear your comments too.
What Do Your Employees Need And Value The Most? by Joseph Folkman
(Forbes.com) “Because leaders can’t fix everything, working on the issues that are most needed and valued will maximize the impact of improvement.”
My Thoughts: We can’t assume that everyone working for the same company has the same values. By considering each person/role within the organization, you have a better chance of giving them what they need AND value.
Is your boss making you sick? by IBO
(Insurance Business Online) “According to Adonis, leaders that undercut their employees or are overly negative towards them have a detrimental effect on employee health while passive leaders can create too much stress in the work place and have a similarly detrimental effect on staff.”
My Thoughts: Things like providing open and honest feedback and support not only make your employees feel better, it also helps keep them healthier. The nice thing is, this works at home too!
Applying Appreciation Language in the Workplace by Maria Elana Duron
(US News & World Report) “It turns out appreciation is a big factor behind great work environments and overall productivity. When people feel valued and appreciated, they strive to become better and give their all to the tasks at hand.”
My thoughts: It’s all in know HOW employees like to be recognized and treating them accordingly. How do you find out? Ask!
