Technology should improve your life… not become your life.

You don’t realize how technology runs your life until you get away from it – even for a short while.

I had the opportunity to give a keynote speech in Puerto Rico in May of 2019, so my husband and I decided to turn it into a cruise vacation as well. Because I didn’t want to lug my computer around the ship with me, I left it at home – for a total of two weeks! I don’t think my computer and I have ever been apart that long!

Also, because I’m too cheap to pay for the ship’s wi-fi package, I was without phone access to the internet while we were out to sea.

It was really weird for the first few days, but I adjusted. I knew my awesome Assistant, Katy, would take care of anything critical, and I was able to use my phone for one purpose – to take lots of pictures and videos! It was a nice break!

We don’t often have the opportunity to escape technology very often, but taking a short break is refreshing.  Leaving your phone off at a movie is not an option, but what about making a conscious effort to leave it off while you’re at a restaurant and just enjoy the company of the people you’re actually with?

Don’t get me wrong, I love my technology – and I also enjoy the freedom of letting it go for awhile.
