“Four things come not back – the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life and the neglected opportunity.” Arabian Proverb
From the stage I heard a speaker talk about how he was asked to join Infusionsoft while it was being run out of a bedroom. He turned it down. It’s now a multi-billion dollar corporation. A friend revealed that his uncle was offered one of the very first McDonald’s franchises and he said, “no.” We all know how McDonald’s has fared. How many people have you heard lamenting that they did not buy Apple or Microsoft stock when it first came out? Oh, if we had a nickel for every one of those…
Ah, the missed opportunity. If only we knew then what we know now, our lives would have been so much better, right? Unfortunately, we make bad calls from time to time. In the movie Anna Karenina, Keira Knightley’s character, said, “I’d rather wish I hadn’t than wish I had.” I feel the same way. I’d rather go for it, taking risks so at the end of the day, there’s no regrets that I didn’t do something I could have.
What about you? Are you playing full-out, or do you tend to err on the side of extreme caution? Think about areas where you can take a bit more risk. You may find a greater payoff than you imagined and have a lot more fun. Just like in Star Trek, you’ll “go where no man has gone before.” Live long and prosper.
PS – And no woman has gone before…
