“A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.” Isadora James
My sister, Debbie, lives in California, and I live in Ohio, so we don’t get to spend nearly as much time together as I would like. One Thanksgiving, Debbie made the drive from LA and joined Scott and me at my brother-in-law’s house in Las Vegas for the holiday.
Because there wasn’t enough room in the house for all of us to have our own place to sleep, Debbie and I took advantage of the perfect opportunity to spend some quality “sister time” together. We booked a room at the corner hotel and for the first time in our adult life, had a slumber party. We spent the night talking, laughing and sharing stories. It was the highlight of the week.
No matter how long it is between visits, my sister and I share a bond, and we can always get to that place of genuine connection. I am grateful to have her in my life – and I made sure to express my appreciation to her for our time together.
Is there someone with whom you can reestablish a connection? If a visit is not possible, pick up the phone; download the Skype, Tango or Facetime app; send a “hello” email or text. The beautiful thing about it is you’ll find that you’re closer than you think.
Have fun,
Lisa
PS – The apps are free and the time spent together is priceless.
