Travel and the Art of Appreciation

Lisa Ryan Grategy travel“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.” Denis Waitley

Because of a delayed flight out of Milwaukee, I was going to miss my connection in Chicago – the last flight out. I was NOT going to be stranded for the night, so I decided to use the rental car and drive home – a seven-hour journey that would get me home around 1:30 am. I called the airlines several times to let them know I would not be on my flight, but after waiting on hold for a long time, I gave up.

About one and a half hours into my drive, I saw signs for “Chicago – O’Hare.” I thought, “Wait a minute, what if I just return the car in Chicago and get on my original flight home?” Without a minute to spare, that’s exactly what I did.

I realized that if I had managed to reach the airline, my ticket would have been cancelled. I am so grateful that things worked out exactly the way they were supposed to, even though it’s not the way I planned.

When you are frustrated, please know that many times there are forces working things out behind the scenes to help you in unexpected ways. When you let go of your expectations as to how things “should” be, magic happens!

PS – Although it may not feel like your appeals for help are working, they are!
