“I cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that I can do.” Jana Stanfield
Every year my financial planner sponsors a “Blitz Day” for Junior Achievement. Matt and a group of friends present a series of programs in one mega-session at an inner-city elementary school. For the third time, I participated in his event.
My third graders were tasked with learning about city planning and money. Junior Achievement put together a delightful program involving coloring, reading, playing games, learning how cities are created, discovering all the different forms of money. They were so excited and anxious to participate – even raising their hands before they knew the question. We accomplished a lot that day, and the amount of laughter in the room let me know that the kids had fun.
A few days later, I received a large envelope in the mail. Upon opening it, thirty-four hand-made thank you cards tumbled out. What a precious gift! The students shared which pats of the program they liked best and thanked me for spending the morning with them. Obviously, they had one heck of a teacher who encouraged them to take the time to express their appreciation. Although I didn’t get paid for my time, receiving this wonderful gift made it a wonderful investment.
Is there something you can do today, this week or this month to give back? There are plenty of places that can use your support. When you don’t feel there are enough hours in your day, sometimes giving your time to others is the single best thing you can do.
Have fun,
Lisa
