Because there are so many great articles on employee engagement and creating a culture of appreciation in the workplace, I want to share the best of these resources with you. Here are my favorites from this week. I have included some of my thoughts on these gratitude strategies (“Grategies”) and would like to hear your comments too.
(Forbes.com) “The hope of engagement is that it will lead to great work—that the discretionary effort will actually be applied to do the kind of work that drives improved results. In some cases it might. In others, well, not so much.”
My Thoughts: Employee engagement is more than getting higher scores on your engagement surveys, it’s about a long-term commitment to creating a culture that connects people emotionally to the organization – and that takes time.
(Huffington Post) “Help your team identify meaning in the work they do — whether this means helping the planet or delighting customers. If your company is focused solely on increasing sales, your employees will be in constant danger of burnout. They’ll work harder and be happier if their work has meaning.”
My Thoughts: We all want to be at least a little better tomorrow than we are today. Your employees, if given the opportunity to shine, will!
(CSuite.co.uk) “To engage employees you need to prove to them that what they do really makes a difference to customers. Tell them exactly what you’ve done with the feedback they’ve provided. Make customer feedback available to all employees, through the right channels and with the right level of detail, and recognise their role in delivering great customer experiences. You can tie this in with employee reward programmes for greater engagement, too.”
My thoughts: What gets recognized gets repeated. Sharing feedback with your employees helps them to understand what they are doing well – so they can do more of that.
